Community Food recycling initiative

Idea: Since working with Highland Third Sector Interface and the Lochaber Community Partnership in 2019, the KCT have been working on a food project. Through the Covid-19 pandemic and with support from local organisations Dramafish and the Menshed, we have been able to launch this project and have opened the Pantry

Aim: To provide a food hub for residents, visitors, organisations and businesses to recycle unwanted food items for the community to use. This project aims to reduce food waste, promote recycling and healthy eating and ultimately to reduce food poverty.

Legacy: The KCT hope to establish the project utilising some of the amazing volunteers that have come forward during lockdown and those already working with us to monitor, clean, stock and promote the pantry.

Status: The pantry is now open. We are in the middle of developing a leaflet, finalising signage and training volunteers.
