Kinlochleven Today

In August 2008, Kinlochleven High School, Kinlochleven primary School and Nursery welcomed the children back to a new term in lovely, spacious surroundings in their new environment. Kinlochleven High School is an integrated campus with Kinlochleven Primary School and Nursery offering a fantastic learning environment for pupils of all ages; a brand new 21st Century facility offering education to approximately 239 pupils. Kinlochleven High School has a current role of 143 pupils, Primary School role is 75 over four mainstream classes and 21 children are on the role for the 3 Year and 4 Year nursery class. The former Kinlochleven Community Centre has also undergone some recent changes and has recently changed its name to The Leven Centre to incorporate the combined community facilities in the existing centre and the new facilities in the High and Primary School campus. The newly renamed Leven Centre complex includes meeting rooms, sports hall, a new theatre space complete with surround sound cinema equipment and gym. The new all-weather pitch has now been developed and is very well used. The public Library and Service Point has also relocated to the new school site and can be contacted on 01855 831 663 or can be found to the left of the main entrance to the High School. Fishing permits are available to buy within the Aluminium Story Building.

West Highland College (formerly Lochaber College) has a member of staff based in Kinlochleven which ensures that more learning opportunities can be delivered locally.  Katie Daynes was recently appointed as Rural Learning Facilitator for Lochaber College, Kinlochleven.

The college will be offering several courses over the autumn and winter of 2010 which may include Basic Computer, Intermediate ICT, Sign Language, Ceramics Workshop, Digital Photography, Basket Weaving, Paths Skills, Bike Maintenance, Drama Skills and Italian .  Most of the courses will be held in Kinlochleven High School, with state of the art facilities including a Home Economics room and Computer Suites.  Please make enquiries or bookings to Katie as soon as possible.

In May 2011 Nether Lochaber Amateur Boxing Club moved into Unit 2, Kinlochleven Business Park, Kinlochleven.  The club is open to all and is well attended by Kinlochleven and South Lochaber residents.  The club is a non profit making organisation and therefore only retain a small income in the way of membership fees.  Weekly activities include boxing, boxercise for the ladies, fitness suite and future champs (under 11's boxing).  The club is affiliated to and bound by the rules of Amateur Boxing Scotland Ltd.
